a normal plug in mid life will apear to have a grey or tan hue.

Over heated. Overheating is do to an air / fuel ratio being too lean. Or even the engine itself over
heating. Note: white chalky color and pitting or erosion of the electrode insulator.

Carbon build up is caused by an Air Fuel ratio being to rich. In extreme cases or when floded
the plug will actualy be wet with fuel. Or oil if the rings are worn.

Redsidual deposits are caused by inproper or inconsistant oils during changes. They can also be atributed
to fuel additives.

Abnormal wear is typicly caused by improper gapping

Breaking can occure in events of excessive detonation. Check octane level or type of fuel being used.
